Private tutor in Norman, OK

Education

I am a senior English Literature and Cultural Studies Major and Women and Gender Studies Minor at the University of Oklahoma. I have over 30 course hours of experience in English courses with a heavy emphasis in academic writing. I graduated from Moore High School in Moore, OK in 2011 in the top ten percent of my class.

Experience

My focus is on making concepts accessible and relatable through easy-to-understand communication and teaching with students. As a tutor, I aim to be relatable, open to questions, and love to create dialogue between myself and students to best accommodate their needs. I have over 4 years in helping junior high and high school students learn public speaking and debate, with over 7 years of my own competitive public speaking experience as well. Because of this, reading and writing, research, and persuasion are a specialization of mine. Formal Teaching/Tutoring Experience: 4 years teaching junior high and high school students debate and public speaking as an assistant coach. Relevant Education: 30+ hours of college course credit in English courses at the University of Oklahoma. Personal Experience: I've been taking college courses for 4 years, and I have 7 years of competitive debate experience, from high school to college. As a debater for the OU, I have placed with a partner in the top 32 collegiate debate teams at the national championship tournament, only losing the to eventual winners. I've won won tournaments, and speaker awards for my individual performance as well. ADD/ADHD: *More information to come!* My tutoring is Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder friendly! I was diagnosed with ADD, inattentive-type, in November 2014, and have been undergoing treatment since. As a fellow student and tutor, I can give some (hopefully!) helpful advice about managing symptoms of ADD/ADHD and the responsibilities that come with being a college student. I'm definitely still learning how to juggle school and life and my different way of thinking, but I want to be able to share my knowledge and hopefully end up learning from you as well! Standardized Test Scores: 2011 ACT Score: 30 2010 AP Language and Composition Exam Score: 5 2010 AP US History Exam Score: 4 2011 AP Government Exam Score: 4

Hobbies

People have described me as funny, compassionate, and smart. But, really, I like to think about all my daily interactions with others as an opportunity to teach and create dialogue. Communicating new concepts and helping others learn isn't just something I'd love to do as a job, it's my passion. Hobbies: Debate, visual arts, 2-D drawing, pop culture, philosophy, video games, and music. I also love hanging out with my family, and try to be a mentor to my 17-year-old sister. Interests: Fine art, communication, education, rhetoric, pop culture, politics, history, philosophy, critical theory, film, television, and animation.
